A wooden cocoon with a view

The village of Hurden is located on a peninsula protruding from Lake Zurich – here water is ever-present. When a resident architect couple decided to renovate their old swimming pool, unusually, all their attention was focused on thermally modified aspen rather than the lake. The builders thus created a cosy, cocoon-like spa.

100% aspen!
On the ceiling, on the walls, in the sauna: aspen is everywhere in this oasis of well-being! The result is a cosy, cocoon-like feel. But to ensure an intimate rather than a cramped atmosphere, graphite-black floor tiles and an ice-blue pool create contrasts. And the large glass fronts naturally afford a view of the lake.

Deep relaxation with added extras
The strips of aspen wood are evenly lined up around the sauna and swimming pool. The warm hues of the wood are also highlighted by indirect spotlighting. Relaxation begins the moment the users of this private spa enter this relaxing oasis. Sauna features such as a herbal steam bath are just waiting to be put to use ...

Although the focus is on one material, thermally modified aspen wood, other materials are just as important for creating an overall impression. The corner design of the profile-free glass front of the sauna and the large sliding windows of the house for example are key partners. But also the shiny stainless steel heater and the huge, snow-white floor vase by the edge of the pool provide stylish elements.
