A solitaire by the sea

After a flood destroyed the pool house of a villa owner in Wilen, the new building turned into something completely different: it now opened out onto the garden, where a natural pond and Lake Zurich form a direct extension to the indoor pool. With natural stone and spruce panelling, the new world of water not only includes a sauna, but is also an ode to the mountains.

Triple the relaxation
Like a hut on the steep mountain slopes, the new sauna cabin nestles into a corner of the spa house, overlooking the pool, pond and lake. But this design rule of three is not the only thing to create a sense of harmony: fine natural stone covers the swimming pool and sauna walls. And the spruce panelling in the cabin corresponds with the open beams.

Impressive details
Because it is often the small details that have a big effect, the grooves of the sauna wall in this oasis of well-being are jet black – highlighting the surrounding wood. And to create sunlight effects on the water, a window was installed in the sloping roof above the pool. But the real highlight is in the relaxation room: a billiard table for a match between saunas.

Materials
Vals quartzite is a natural stone with a glamorous feel thanks to its sparkling inclusions and marble-like structure.
